Broadlinc Brings High-Speed Internet to the towns of Spangle, Waverly, and Fairfield, Closing a Rural Connectivity Gap
Spokane County, WA — [October 29, 2025] — At the 2021 Spokane Council of Governments moderated by Commissioner Mary Kuney, chair of Spokane County Board of County Commissioners, the need for high-speed internet in the rural areas became a regional topic of priority for our local elects. In particular, the small towns of South Spokane County lacked the digital highway to connect their constituents to broadband. This week is launching the culmination of 20 miles of newly constructed fiber optic cable connecting the towns of Spangle, Waverly, and Fairfield to allow for private Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to bring affordable, sustainable, and competitive service plans to those along the fiber path and within these towns ~ as well as the Liberty School District.
“Broadlinc has done what we set out to do. The inability for private companies to bring internet to several rural towns of South Spokane County is now possible due to the digital backbone from public investment by Broadlinc.” said City of Medical Lake Mayor Terri Cooper, also Broadlinc Governing Board Chair.
This is one of several new network deployments across Spokane County by Broadlinc including additional fiber middle mile, fiber to the home (FTTH) and fixed wireless projects in North Spokane County and the West Plains. This is in addition to upcoming contracts for over $90 Million in Federal Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) funding to expand their network across Spokane County between now and 2029. “Internet access, fundamentally, is not about fiber, wireless, or satellite technologies ~ it is about the ability to connect people to the relationships that mean the most to them at home, work, and play. We are investing today in tomorrow’s economy,” said Broadlinc Executive Director Ariane Schmidt.
The Ribbon Cutting will be held at Liberty School, 6404 E Spangle Waverly Rd, Spangle, WA 99031 at 1:00 pm and is open to the public.
